How to choose a baby bassinet? Is it necessary?

Between a bassinet and a crib, the main difference is in the size. The former is smaller and hence more portable. It also has a hood that you can pull over when the baby is sleeping. Bassinets have weight limit and are typically only used for the first few months. Cribs, on the other hand, can last longer and may be more value for money in the long run. A crib also has higher sides and is possible to be converted into a toddler bed. Some points to consider in deciding between whether a bassinet is necessary would be: - Is there enough space in your room for a crib? Do you need to move around frequently? If your room is small and you wish to have your baby sleeping in the same room as you in the first few months, a bassinet may be a good option as it is smaller in size. Also, if you need to move around often, a bassinet will be better as it is more portable. - Ease of use. Due to the higher sides, it may be a little more difficult to pick up and put down your baby when using a crib as compared to a bassinet. - Cost. As mentioned, a bassinet can only be used for a few months. So it depends on whether you would like something that will last longer. Ultimately, the most important thing is safety and comfort for your baby. Choose a bed that has a firm and flat mattress. If the bed has slats, make sure your baby’s head cannot fit through them.
Read moreBassinets are ideal if you do not have space for a crib yet wish to keep your baby by your side. Other than that I just feel that it acts like a regular bed unless you really require the portability and the option to rock your baby to sleep. Ideally I would still recommend to go for a baby cot that can last you a longer period of time, probably up to 3 years old if baby is willing to sleep in it. Bassinets last you till about 6-7 months old and will not be safe once baby can sit and climb. You can view several reviews here and decide which is best for you though I feel they are more or less similar. http://m.babygearlab.com/Bassinet-Reviews/Buying-Advice
Read moreI prefer a co-sleeper instead of a bassinet. They have super tiny ones if you have space constraints. It's safer and you can just reach over to attend to your baby. I had a Moses basket but found it cumbersome, though it was easy to carry baby around the house with it.
thanks
