How to choose a baby bassinet? Is it necessary?

Bassinets are ideal if you do not have space for a crib yet wish to keep your baby by your side. Other than that I just feel that it acts like a regular bed unless you really require the portability and the option to rock your baby to sleep. Ideally I would still recommend to go for a baby cot that can last you a longer period of time, probably up to 3 years old if baby is willing to sleep in it. Bassinets last you till about 6-7 months old and will not be safe once baby can sit and climb.
