Pillow talk

Hey mums, is it ok to use an anti flat head pillow for new borns? I read articles it’s unsafe as pillows might cause SID? A firm mattress is recommended instead. What’s your take on this?#advicepls #1stimemom

I did not use pillow for my daughter and her head didn't turn flat. I'm a FTM too so I did what's recommended, since I was too anxious and didn't want to regret if anything happens. A baby with a flat head is better than losing the baby, that's what I thought.

Is a domestic helper necessary for parents with kid(s)?

If necessary, do share what duties your maid does?

Personally coping ok with 1 kid and without helper as both husband n wife share the workload. Not comfortable of having to live with a stranger in the house as well.

Hand foot mouth disease

hi mummies my Lo Is currently down with a Hand foot mouth disease from school , baby has been crying in the middle of the night due to uncomfortable mouth sores , currently on day 5 of HFMD. does any mummies know any relief for the mouth sores or ways that can heal faster? #needadviceplease

Ah, HFMD is really tough on the little ones, especially with the mouth sores keeping them up at night. My friend's kid had it last year and she found that cool foods like ice cream, yoghurt and smoothies helped ease the pain a bit, plus she gave paracetamol before bedtime so her son could sleep better. I'd definitely check in with your PD to see if there's anything else they can suggest for faster healing or if there's a mouth gel that might help with the sores. The good news is most kids bounce back within a week or so, so hang in there.

I'm not really familiar with this brand, so I can't give you personal feedback on it. If you're looking for an electrolyte drink for yourself or the kids, I've just been sticking with plain water mostly, or coconut water when we're out in the heat doing activities. Some mums swear by Pocari Sweat or 100 Plus for the kids after sports, but honestly depends on what works for your family and whether you want the sugar content. Maybe check the ingredients and see if it fits what you're after?

What treatment is usually given for ear infections in Singapore?

My son had an ear infection last year and the PD gave him antibiotics after checking his ear with that little torch thing, so definitely bring your child to see the doctor as soon as you can because they need to confirm it's actually an infection first. A few of my mum friends also mentioned their kids got ear drops prescribed, but it really depends on what the doctor finds when they examine, so best not to wait and just book that appointment at the polyclinic or your regular PD.
