You could call the principal but why not wait till the new semester? The transition will be smoother. He will start the school year together with the rest as opposed to transfer in the middle of the school year. Which chinese enrichment school is gd for beginners

I would strongly recommend berries! My boy joins in at n1 and he doesn't speak Mandarin before that. He does not like Chinese at all and was not interested in it. After sending him to berries, he begins to love Chinese and would speak mandarin by himself without any difficulty. He also enjoys the class a lot! Do send your child for their trial to see if he/she like it or not.
