Rheumatologist recommendation

Did genetic testing with husband and miscarriage profiling after 2 miscarriages…results came back normal except one marker was raised - gynae explained that I am likely to have an autoimmune condition and will need to be further evaluated by a rheumatologist (specialist in this case). she said can refer me but I am just wondering if there are other options out there… she also shared typically patients on this journey will need to start steroids or aspirin for subsequent pregnancy Anyone been through similar situation? Appreciate if you can share ur rheumatologist contact pls🙏🏻

Oh my goodness, I really feel for you, two miscarriages is so emotionally draining, and now navigating all these specialist referrals on top of that must feel overwhelming. I actually went through something similar with my sister-in-law, who had a raised autoimmune marker after her second loss, and she ended up seeing A/Prof Leong Keng Hong, who is a rheumatologist here in Singapore with a lot of experience specifically in autoimmune conditions and pregnancy planning. She said he was very thorough and reassuring, he explained clearly how conditions like these can be managed so that women can still carry a baby to term safely, which gave her so much hope. Someone in my mum group also mentioned that the key is pairing your rheumatologist closely with an obstetrician who specialises in high-risk pregnancies, so the two work together on your care plan, especially once you start on aspirin or steroids during the pregnancy. A few mums had a smoother experience going through a rheumatologist who already has that kind of link with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, so it might be worth asking whichever doctor you choose whether they have that setup. Do take heart, many women with autoimmune conditions have gone on to have healthy pregnancies with the right support and monitoring. One of my mum friends swears by it for the pricing, especially on diapers and formula which we all know add up fast. Tateh and Fabbie are also worth a walk-through if you have time, as some mums find slightly different selections there that complement what Manjaku carries. For your newborn clothes and the smaller bits, just go with a rough list so you do not overspend, the prices are so good it is easy to overbuy!

Feeling nauseous at week 12

Hello there mummies, I have been experiencing nauseous since week 6 of my pregnancy. I'm now at my week 12, gynae said by this time it should be starting to ease. But I'm feeling much worse than before. This is my first pregnancy and i wanna know any mummies also exp nauseous on their way through 2nd trimester and how to deal w it? Thanks!

Hello mummies! Any mummies with the same gynae and gave birth via c-section? how much was your total bill including baby’s, after medisave deduction?

Hiya! A few of us in my mum circle have gone through C-sections and the rough figure we kept hearing was around $5,000 total (including baby's separate bill), with Medisave covering about $2,100, so you'd be looking at roughly $2,900-ish out of pocket in cash. Someone in my mum group mentioned that Dr Lawrence Ang is actually quite good about maximising Medisave claims where he can, so you may not end up paying as much as you fear. Do note that Medisave has its own withdrawal limits, so even if your bill is higher, there's a cap on how much you can pull out, best to check your Medisave balance beforehand and budget for some cash top-up just in case. So the snippets you shared are actually in pesos, which looks like a Philippine hospital's pricing, so that's not going to be relevant for TMC here in Singapore, just a heads up! A few of us in my mum circle have delivered at TMC and from what we gathered, for an elective C-section at TMC you'd generally want to budget somewhere in the range of $8,000 to $12,000+ SGD out-of-pocket cash after Medisave deduction, though it really does vary depending on your ward choice, how long baby stays in nursery, and any extras. I'd honestly recommend calling TMC's billing counter directly to ask for an estimated breakdown under Dr Lawrence Ang specifically, since gynae fees do differ and they're usually quite helpful walking you through what Medisave can cover. Some mums in my circle also found it useful to clarify upfront whether the quote includes paediatrician fees for baby, because that can add a meaningful chunk to the final bill!

Choose your pregnancy footwear 😁

Each pair of footwear should be comfortable and breathable during pregnancy. The soles should be soft and flexible and have a good deal of arch support!

A few of us in my mum group went through this and we all agreed that comfort really has to come first, especially in the later months when your feet swell up. I personally loved wearing supportive sandals that had good arch support because standing or walking for even a short while can really tire you out. One of my mum friends also reminded me to avoid anything with a hard or rigid sole since your feet need room to breathe and flex throughout the day. Getting something soft and flexible made such a difference for me during my third trimester lah.

Booster jab for mummies?

Hi everyone, i just found out im in my first trimester recently and should be having my covid booster jab this week. I cancelled the appointment as it is only safe to take the jab after 14 weeks. But any one of u have the same experience as me? Will mysejahtera turn unvaccinated even though i cant take it due to its unsafe to take the jab in first trimester? Thank you in advance

Hi there, congratulations on your pregnancy! A few of us in my mum circle have had this same worry, from what we heard, MySejahtera should still reflect your vaccinated status since the booster is separate from your primary doses, but one of my mum friends who was in her first trimester actually called the clinic directly and they updated her appointment without any issue and confirmed her status wouldn't drop. We also heard that some doctors are actually fine with the jab even in the first trimester depending on your risk profile, so the 14-week guideline may vary a little from doctor to doctor, some mums in our group took it earlier on their OB's advice and were completely fine, while others preferred to wait and had no problems either way. The good news too is that babies born to vaccinated mums apparently get some protection in their early months, which is really reassuring! Definitely worth checking in with your own gynae or OB before making the final call, as they'll be able to advise based on your specific situation. Take care of yourself, mama!

Post Recovery For C-Sect Mum

my firstborn had a smooth easy pregnancy throughout including smooth delivery despite an unplanned emergency C-section. Except I experienced an agonizing post recovery bcs of the spinal anesthesia & old spinal injury I had before that left me bedridden for a month during my confinement period, mentally & physically hated myself for depending on others, being paralyzed waist down, even turning or getting up hurts tremendously til this day. I gave up with my confinement ended up isolating myself instead but thankfully didn't have baby blues issues. It was just traumatic & sensitive for me to the point I just refused postnatal massage & kept postponing it or anyone touching or coming near my post surgery area. This time round for my second upcoming delivery I doubt they could grant me natural delivery, I foresee another C-Sect delivery & I need to take better care of myself and strong for my babies, I still have the spinal pain to this day esp at 32weeks pregnant so pls do share your recommendations or advices on confinement recovery tips/postnatal massage🙏🙏

Oh dear, first of all, sending you so much strength, what you went through with your first sounds genuinely traumatic, and the fact that you're already thinking ahead and wanting to do better for yourself this time shows how strong you really are. A few of us in my mum circle have had C-sections with pre-existing back issues, and the recurring advice is to tell your anaesthetist and obstetrician about your spinal history well before delivery so they can plan your anaesthesia approach carefully, apparently this makes a real difference in how the spinal block is administered and what pain management they line up for you post-op. For confinement, one of my mum friends who also struggled with wound sensitivity said she found it helpful to ask her confinement lady to start with very gentle, non-invasive support first, things like warm herbal baths and dietary care, before slowly working up to any touch near the surgery area, only when she felt fully ready, so there was no pressure. On postnatal massage, some mums in our group love it for recovery, but a couple who had spinal complications said they waited longer than the usual two weeks and specifically asked for a therapist experienced with C-section and back injury clients, which helped them feel safer about the whole process. Do please loop in your own O&G specialist and maybe a physiotherapist early this time, they can tailor a recovery plan around your specific spinal situation in a way general advice really cannot.
