Baby activities

I have 5 months old baby. And since I’m a stay home mother, I found it extremely exhausting to take care of my baby especially he has been waking up every few 2 hours at night. Any ideas or activities for baby and I to pass time. Thanks.

Wah 5 months with 2 hourly night wakings is really tough lah, you are doing an amazing job as a stay home mum! For activities you can try sensory play like letting baby touch different textures, sing nursery rhymes, do tummy time with colorful toys, or even just narrate what you are doing around the house because babies at this age love hearing your voice and looking at faces. Also please don't forget to take care of yourself too, maybe join some mummy and baby classes like Gymboree or baby gym sessions so you get to meet other mummies and have some adult conversation, because staying home alone with baby whole day can be quite isolating and exhausting so having a community of mummies really helps a lot!

3+ ketones in my urine in 37 week pregnancy

Oh dear, I really feel you on this, being a first-time mum at 37 weeks and seeing something like that on your urine test is genuinely scary, and it makes complete sense that you're worried. From what I've heard from other mums, 3+ ketones usually means your body may not be getting enough carbohydrates or fluids, so your body starts breaking down fat for energy instead, it's sometimes called starvation ketosis, and it can happen even if you feel like you've been eating. My neighbour actually had something similar flagged at her 36-week check and her doctor explained that it's important to distinguish between just being dehydrated versus not eating enough, because the treatment approach can be a little different. The most important thing right now is to please don't wait, call your OB or midwife today and let them know the reading, especially since 3+ is on the higher end and at 37 weeks they will want to monitor you and baby properly. Do check with your own doctor rather than rely on what any of us say, as every pregnancy is different and yours deserves proper professional eyes on it.

My 2-3 months old keep refusing to drink & want multiple breaks in between feeding. Help!

Ah, don't worry too much, a few of us went through exactly this around the same age! Around 2-3 months there's something some mums call a "feeding crisis" where babies get fussy and distracted, and one thing that really helped a friend of mine was feeding in a dark, quiet room because her baby was overstimulated and would only drink calmly when her surroundings were settled. It's also worth checking small things like whether the nipple flow is too fast or too slow, or trying more frequent burping mid-feed since the breaks could just be baby's way of managing discomfort. Someone in my mum group also mentioned that reflux or even an ear infection can sometimes cause babies to pull away during feeds, so if this keeps up or baby seems uncomfortable and isn't gaining weight well, do bring it up with your PD just to rule those things out!
