Bonding with newborn

My baby is 3 wks old now, during the day grandma will do most of the feeding while i will takecare of my baby at night. Somehow i am worried that my baby is bonded with grandma because when i call for her she doesnt interact as much with me. Am i thinking too much? :( i want my baby to stick to me. ;/ #mommy #firstchild #bonding

hello dearest I went thru the exact same thing as you and I can honestly tell you I cried daily thinking that my baby doesn’t love me or he wouldn’t recognise me. ( I’m a young ftm… when my darling Js born I didn’t really get to do a lot my aunt did most of the things for me because she’s worried) are you breastfeeding? Would recommend you to breastfeed as it really helps you bond w baby!! And I would say don’t worry too much about it laa baby still small. And I strongly believe that babies recognises their MOTHER scent…. (Tested & proven) At first I also want baby to stick to me But now hello I can’t even go toilet Fella on my Chest as I’m typing HHAHAHAH it’s adorable that he’s sticking to me but now my arms my body really very sore so becareful what you wish for! Aghahaha hope it helps

My newborn hiccups when he sleep. Do I wake him up to burp him or let him continue sleep?

I continue to let him sleep. As long as he is not crying or what, I just let him be.

Breast feeding milk supply

How long does it take for the milk supply to kick in? Any ways to make it come faster ? I’m 3 days postpartum, I’ve tried to let my baby latch on me to kick start it but still no use

consistently pumping every 2hrs, that's what works for me

Induce at 39 weeks

Hello mummies, i am currently at 39 weeks, no signs of labour yet. During 38 weeks, baby is 2.8kg during check up. Im afraid if baby is too big or heavy, i am unable to push out due to my small size. Thinking of induction on my next appointment with gynae which i will be 39 weeks and 4 days but not sure what is the ideal weight to induce. Can i get some advice please?

my baby is already 2.6kg on week 33. I'm now at week 38. probably will induce next week depending on his weight. for 2.8kg at 38 weeks should be fine. I heard the ideal weight to induce will be 3.2kg as there might be a 200g+- difference from ultrasound

Finding out bad things

my husband has been a hater of drugs... but at 39 weeks i found out he had been on drugs and lying ... what do i do ? im so lost and dont know what to do

Aiyo, first of all, please don't panic alone, you are 39 weeks, your body and baby need you to stay as calm as possible okay! My friend's husband went through something similar and she called WE CARE Community Services, she said they were really understanding and helped the whole family, not just her husband, so you don't have to figure everything out by yourself. Most importantly, please do loop in your gynae or doctor too, because they can also connect you to the right people and make sure you and baby are well taken care of through all this. You've got this, mama, one small step at a time!

Depends on you. Usually I will see when is the last feed. If it’s 2/3 hours then I will not wake my baby up yet. If it’s 6 hours since the last feed then I will gently wake him up.

Rashes/hives after giving birth?

Hi everyone, could I check if these rashes / hives are normal? They're superrrrr itchy 😫

Oh dear, yes this is actually more common than you think after giving birth! The hormonal crash after delivery, plus the stress and sleep deprivation from caring for a newborn, can all spike your cortisol levels and trigger these itchy hives, even if you have never had allergies or skin issues before in your life. My friend went through the same thing and her doctor explained that the histamine release from all that hormonal shift is basically what causes the rash, so it can pop up on your arms, back, legs, really anywhere. To be honest though, it was quite a few weeks before hers fully settled, so I will not pretend it clears up overnight, some mums find antihistamines help, others say cooling the skin and managing stress levels made a bigger difference. Definitely worth getting it checked by your GP or a dermatologist soon though, just to rule out anything else and get the right treatment for your situation!

Is this normal?

Hi mommies my baby is 11 days old today and I noticed he’s been sleeping ALOT. Only started tracking 5 days ago and noticed he’s sleeping more thn 20 hrs a day is this normal? And he does wake up for feed but will go back to sleep right after…. Or sometimes he doesn’t wake up at all and I have to wake him up for feeds. I thought it was normal till I googled now I’m quite unsure. also should I start increasing his formula? Currently drinking 60 ml he can finish the whole bottle and still b hungry.( feeding him both fomula & breastmilk) and does anyone actually use the tracking features on this app? Is it better or other tracking apps better? Sorry for asking so many questions 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️But I’m Js unsure!!!! #FTM

Sleeping 20 hours a day at 11 days old is actually quite normal, newborns can sleep up to 16 to 20 hours, and waking them every 2 to 3 hours for feeds is the right thing to do since they sometimes sleep through hunger at this age. For formula amount, a rough guide is that newborns generally take about 60 to 90 ml per feed at this stage, so if he is finishing 60 ml and still showing hunger cues like rooting or sucking on his fist, you can try bumping up to 70 to 75 ml and see how he goes, my friend's paediatrician at KKH actually told her to go by hunger cues rather than stick rigidly to a fixed amount, which made a lot of sense. The general rule of thumb going around is about 75 ml of formula per kilogram of body weight per day, so your baby's weight is a good anchor to work from when deciding how much to increase. That said, since he is on a mix of formula and breastmilk, the balance can vary day to day, so it is worth checking all of this with your PD or a lactation consultant to make sure the amounts are right for his specific weight and needs.
