Starting solids

Just started feeding my little one 1 month ago. When should I start 2 meals a day..

milk is still the main source of nutrients for LO below 1. but if your LO is enjoying solids, can consider one meal solid and in between milk feed, fruit pureen for snack?

Aiyoh I really feel you on this, first time mum life is so overwhelming lah, you're doing great just by thinking ahead for your little one! My friend Sandra actually went through the same thing with her 3-year-old and she swore by Jolly Phonics, she said the songs and actions make learning the letter sounds so much more fun and sticky for toddlers, not just rote memorisation. Someone in my mum WhatsApp group also mentioned that at this age, preschool will cover the phonics properly, so no need stress too much, just focus on casual exposure at home first. My neighbour tried this cute idea where she sent her daughter on a little scavenger hunt around the house to find things that start with a certain sound, like "find something starting with 'ssss'", her girl absolutely loved it and didn't even realise she was learning! Some mums feel the alphabet songs are enough, but a few said their kids got bored of it fast, so mixing in hands-on games really helps keep the momentum going.

14 months sleep

My 14 month sleeps at 8pm and wakes up by 6am. How do I get him to sleep longer? He also wakes up 1 time in the night between 4-5am- sometimes he wants milk, sometimes just Pat back to sleep.

10 hours of average sleep at night seems absolutely okay to me, Roshni. Do you really still want him to sleep more? 😃 You are quite fortunate in a way compared to many parents 😃.

Why are some babies born with low birth weight?

Some could be due to hereditary reasons but what we are afraid of is babies with low birth weights because they are not growing well, also know as intra uterine growth restriction/retardation (IUGR). Babies not growing well could be due to the mother having a medical problem. For example, high blood pressure or badly controlled diabetes, which can affect the growth of the baby. Sometimes, it's due to he lack of oxygen for many reasons - it could be an umbilical cord being twisted or the placenta is not healthy so less blood flow to the baby, the mother having an infection that gets transmitted to the baby. Other reasons include chronic alcoholism, chronic smoking and use of recreational drugs. These are some common reasons in addition to the baby having structural or chromosomal abnormalities.
