Blue veins in first tri?

Today I felt an uncommon tenderness on my left hip near my lower back. Upon closer look I realize that I have blue veins on both sides which I'm never noticed before. Is this normal in early pregnancy? Currently 7.5 weeks.

Hi mum, I remember becoming super aware of all kinds of body changes in first tri also and suddenly noticing veins I never paid attention to before. Pregnancy can make veins look more obvious because of increased blood flow, but if the tenderness is new, getting painful, warm, swollen, or only happening on one side more intensely, I would just mention it to your gynae at your next visit or check earlier if you feel uneasy.

Swollen left feet.

Not painful but I worry it's DVT. Deep vein thrombosis. Anyone experienced only 1 swollen feet during pregnancy?#advicepls #pleasehelp

Oh mama, I totally understand your worry, one swollen foot would send me into a panic too! When I was pregnant with my second, I had some swelling but thankfully it was both feet, and my gynae still made me come in straight away just to be safe. The thing is, from what I've generally heard, one-sided swelling is actually the part that needs more attention compared to both feet swelling, because normal pregnancy swelling tends to affect both sides, whereas DVT usually shows up in just one leg or foot. Some mums mention their leg also felt warm or had some redness along with the swelling, which were the extra signs their doctor took seriously. Even without pain, it's still worth getting checked, because a clot can sometimes be there without being obviously painful at first. Please don't wait on this one, go see your gynae or head to A&E today, not tomorrow, just to rule it out and get peace of mind. Wishing you and baby all the best, take care of yourself!

Looking for nanny 1 month only Mid Aug mid Sep

Would like to see if there’s any available nanny to help take care of new born for a month.

Oh I really feel you on this, those first weeks with a newborn are so overwhelming, and it's such a relief when you can find the right help for even just that one month! Someone in my mum group mentioned that once your baby passes 16 weeks old, a confinement nanny can no longer legally care for them, so for that mid-August to mid-September window you may need to look at a proper babysitter arrangement instead, depending on your baby's age. There are agencies out there that can match you with experienced nannies like Aunty Ooi who is fluent in Mandarin and trained in newborn care, or independent nannies like Angela and Margaret who have decades of hands-on infant experience between them. Do note though that some agencies only offer a minimum engagement of three months, so you may need to ask specifically for a short-term arrangement and confirm upfront that they can accommodate just the one month. Wishing you a smooth delivery and a restful confinement, hang in there, you've got this!

Budget for raising baby (foreigner)

Any insights on how much it costs to raise a baby for the first 0-18mos in Singapore without government subsidy (i.e., for foreigners)? Trying to prepare for a monthly budget but have no idea how much things cost on average (e.g., diapers, milk, check-ups, meds, etc.)

Wah, this is such a good question to plan ahead for, a few of us were just talking about this recently! From what I've heard around, you're generally looking at somewhere between $13K to $25K for the first year if you're quite careful, but some mums have shared it crept up to $40K+ once you factor in hospital bills, formula, and all the unexpected extras. Infant care alone without subsidy can run you $1,250 to $2,000 a month, so that's easily your biggest monthly hit. On top of that, budget roughly $500 to $1,000 a month for diapers, formula, check-ups, and meds, it adds up faster than you'd expect, especially since you won't get the subsidised rates at polyclinics. One of my mum friends who went through this says the key is to track every category separately from the start, so nothing catches you off guard mid-year!

Female Gynae review in SGH

Hi, would like to ask for female gynae recommendation based on your based experience and has anyone went to Valerie Low Xinyi before? Appreciate any information if there is thanks.

I haven't personally seen Valerie Low at SGH, but I asked around my mum group and one of my friends said she had a good experience with a female gynae there and felt very comfortable throughout her appointments. If you are looking specifically for a female doctor, SGH does have a few good ones and it might be worth calling the clinic directly to ask about her availability and whether she takes subsidised or private patients. A few of us always recommend going with whoever you feel most at ease with, since that rapport really matters for gynae visits lah.

Hi! Has anyone gotten HL before popping through subsidised NUH?

The first-time subsidy can be quite significant, someone in my mum group mentioned getting up to 80% off the hearing aid cost at the subsidised route, though subsequent replacements you'd have to fund yourself, so factor that in. For children with severe to profound hearing loss, cochlear implants through the subsidised path tend to come with better support and outcomes too. Just go in prepared with questions about what happens after the first purchase!

Is it safe to use this Cethaphil cleanser and toner while pregnant?

Does anyone use this?

Is it safe to use this Cethaphil cleanser and toner while pregnant?

The Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser is generally considered pregnancy-safe and a lot of mums I know have used it throughout without issues, but I've heard some concerns raised about certain Cetaphil brightening or toning products containing ingredients that may affect hormones, so it's worth checking the full ingredient list carefully. Some mums are fine with the toner, but a few others switched it out just to be safe and stuck with just the cleanser and a simple moisturiser like CeraVe. Definitely worth running the specific products past your gynae or doctor to get the all-clear for your own pregnancy.

Hello mummies daddies, may I ask how to reduce phlegm in 2 months young baby?

At 2 months they are still very young, so I would bring the baby to see the PD soon rather than try home remedies at this age. The doctor can properly check if it is just mild congestion or something that needs treatment.
