Prenatal exercises

Hello, first time mom here. I am starting my second trimester and am keen to get back to exercising. What exercises did you all do during your pregnancy? 1. Prenatal yoga/pilates 2. Strength training 3. What form of cardio? Any personal trainer recommendations? Appreciate if you can share your experiences ❤️

Second trimester is actually a great time to start, most mums find the energy comes back a bit and the belly is still manageable, so you have good options across all three areas you mentioned. For yoga and pilates, prenatal-specific classes are really the way to go because the poses are adapted for a growing belly and safe across all trimesters, things like Tree pose for balance and Warrior 2 with side stretches are commonly done, and most studios here offer classes suitable from the first session even if you are a beginner. My friend joined a prenatal yoga class around her second trimester and said the instructor was careful to modify everything, which gave her a lot of confidence. For cardio, stationary cycling tends to come up a lot as a low-impact option that keeps the heart rate up without putting stress on the joints, and some mums do light walking too. Strength training is possible but the trade-off is you really need proper guidance on form and which exercises to avoid as the belly grows, so a certified prenatal personal trainer makes a big difference there versus just following a general programme. That said, every pregnancy is different, so it is worth running your exercise plans by your gynae or midwife first before committing to anything, just to make sure it suits your specific situation.
