Is it necessary to send my child to pre-school at 2-3yo? If not is there any disadvantages? Like hard to catch up the syllabus compare to others. Thinking to send her directly to K1.

I was told by the teachers that there is a difference between kids who went to Sch at very young age and at older age. Kids whom went in is much more independent. At later stage, falls sick less frequently (immune to most germs in Sch).

using phonics. the kids learn phonics in Nursery one. so using phonics, it's easier to teach them spelling..

My K2 boy have problem in recognizing words. what should I do ?

Das is not helping and very expensive too lessons is about 800-900 need to go three lesson and price going up to 2500-3000 only help if your children is quit chinese.

Do you think it is important for a 4-year-old kid to be regular in school? I often let my kid skip if she is very sleepy or don't feel like going.

She's just 4 years old and not going to school for a day is okay. But do not make a habit of it because if she's used to it you will face problems when she reaches higher classes. If the reason for her missing school is because of feeling sleepy then you need to adjust her sleep pattern and timing. Try and avoid skipping school for trivial reasons.

Should 5-year-old kids allowed to see cartoon series where there are princesses and prince? Should they be exposed to romantic inclinations that are subtly shown?

i found your query really cute :) in fact, both my kids love watching a bit of such cartoons, and it's absolutely fine. the idea is that it is all about loving someone, so why to shy away from it? in fact, if you treat it as something that needs to be hidden or not talk about it, your kids will get more curious and talk about it when you are not around. explain them what's going on in an age-appropriate way. for them, love is also an integral part of being friends :)

When do you think is the right age for a kid to own a pet? :)

My kids had a pet since day 1. he is 3 years old now and he feeds his cat every morning before he goes to school and in the evening when he returns from school.

Definitely Caterpillars cove. It's super good! My boy used to attend but we had to leave as we moved to the east!

Hi, Can anyone share your rationale for sending yr child to CC vs church kindys or short playgroups? Do they really learn more at CC since there's afternoon programs compared to those 2 hours church kindys? read somewhere that church kindys have outdated pedagogy and the one nearby doesnt teach phonics, is that important? Wondering if kid will be spoilt if they only attend 2 hrs and stay home with grandparents for most of the day, yet on the other hand wondering if it is too stressful for 2yos to be at school for > 9 hours a day. Read somewhere abt their heightened cortisol level that's not so gd in the long run..will cause behavioural probs etc. Anyone has any insights to share will be great..thanks!:)

Firstly, it depends on your personal parenting beliefs on whether you prefer a more play based curriculum or one which is more academic for your child. Not all CCs adopt the same teaching pedagogy and not all 2 hr kindys are the same. Best to research on the individual school rather than classifying them as one. For me, I prefer my child to be in a more play-based environment. I'm a work from home mum and I send my child to CC so that I can get work and chores done in the day. I send her in at 8.30 and pick her up at 4pm. Whether the kids will be spoilt by grandparents if they only attend 2 hr school - this really depends on the grandparents.. do they indulge in your kid all the time? or are they reasonably strict with them? If you have grandparents are a caregiver, you may consider getting them to bring your child home around 3 or 4pm so that they have more than 2hrs at school and yet not the whole day >9 hrs of being in school. Alternatively, you can consider half day cc.
