Our baby's doctor is not pro breastfeeding. Our baby is 13 months old and her weight has dropped, which is why the doctor asked my wife to use formula milk. However, I think breast milk is better than formula. What should my wife do?

My baby has suddenly stopped feeding. He is just 3 months old and is refusing to latch on. This has been going on for two days now. I am literally forcing him to latch on. What should I do?

There are many reasons associated with baby refusing to latch on. Sometimes, the milk supply from the breast increases and decreases, and the baby is not used to this change and he finds it difficult to adjust. Or if you are feeding in between the bottle he may be confused and sometimes, it may be tiredness. I remember, when my baby was born, she was unable to latch, and I was worried that will she ever able to make it, so I was myself pressing out the milk from the breast than letting her suck. So, when my doctor came, she said, "Do not do this. By doing so you are making the baby lethargic. When he will be hungry he will himself latch." You try different position, or do not feed him during the time he generally takes feed, let him be hungry and then he will himself take the feed. Also, check with the doctor if his chest is clear and not congested. Understand breastfeeding mummy need to consume a lot of fluids. Do you still continue to drink longan water even after confinement? My confinement lady says longan water is for replenish blood so should continue to drink while breastfeed. How do you replenish lots of fluid beside soup?

plain water is the best.. as i suffer edema 2 weeks after i give birth, i drink both plain water & logan water. after confinement i drink lotsa fluid including plain water but not logan water as i don't really like the taste. i don't deliberately drink but i get thirsty very easy as i now breastfeeding... just plain water i drink 2l to 3l per day.. i also drink other beverages & soup during meals

my baby is 4 months old and still waking every 2-3 hours every night to nurse. when will she likely start sleeping through the night? anything I should do to encourage this? she is on full breastmilk - direct latch evenings/nights and bottle fed in the day when I'm at work.

Is she drinking enough? If she is drinking enough, u can try to give her pacifier in the middle of the night to see if she will go back to slp?

I direct latch my lo in the night. 10 plus once and 4 to 5am. I realize that my lo did not pee on some of the nights as I will change the diaper before I go off to work at 6am before she woke up. Is it normal for baby not peeing in the night or its just meaning they didn't get enough milk? My lo is coming to 5.5 months.

mine is 15weeks old n they pee every 30mins or so... even at night. their feed is at 12mn, sometimes 3am & 6am

Is it better to freeze breast milk for 4-5 days or to leave it for the same duration in the fridge before feeding a baby? I know freezing compromises the nutrients in breast milk but will leaving it in the fridge for this long also cause nutrients to be destroyed? P.S. My daughter is a fussy eater who doesn't like the strong smell of breast milk after it's been kept out for a few days.

Preferably best to freeze immediately after expressed. But in your case, do you know EBM can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Under most conditions, breast milk stays fresh at room temperature (60 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit) for three to four hours. But expressed milk that has little bacteria can last for six to eight hours if room temperature remains on the cooler side. Frozen breast milk stays fresh for two weeks in a refrigerator that has a single door to the freezer and refrigerator compartments. In a refrigerator that has a separate door to the freezer, frozen breast milk lasts for 3 to 6 months. Otherwise to ensure less bacteria and more nutrients are stored. Wash bottle and hands before pumping. Pump and freeze immediately. Just my 2 cents. :)
