Babies cry for many reasons, and crying is the main way babies communicate. It’s the way they capture your attention and express their needs. At first, it may be difficult to understand your baby’s different cries, but as you spend more time listening, you will become better at recognizing and meeting your child’s specific needs. For baby below 6 months old, these are the common reasons: -Sleepiness or fatigue -Wet or dirty diaper -Hunger -Overstimulation from noise or activity -Colic, acid reflux, or food allergies -Pain or illness -Gas For me, when baby is young, I will try to carry him/her when she is crying. Check his/her diaper and make sure baby is not crying out of hunger. If you are suspecting due to colic, you can do a massage to ease his/her pain. If the crying is due to sleepiness, I will swaddle baby to calm her/him down and gently rock/pat him/her to sleep. Also, I find using white noise method is very effective to calm down a crying baby. You can purchase a white noise machine or just download white noise apps in your smart phone. For me, I use hair dryer or vacuum cleaner normally. Sounds like it could be colic. According to Wikipedia, baby colic (also known as infantile colic) is defined as episodes of crying which happens for more than three hours a day, for more than three days a week and for three weeks. This could happen in an otherwise healthy child between the ages of two weeks and four months. My experience was that it was very difficult to pacifiy my baby and it seems that whatever I did was almost useless. But suggested methods that may work is swaddling, using a pacifier, bringing your baby out for a car ride (babies love car rides), baby wearing. It differs from baby to baby as to which method will calm her down. You can also purchase anti-colic drops from the pharmacy for your baby.
