A few mums I know have gone through the same thing, and honestly your husband's dry eyes theory is quite common, the heat plus air-conditioning indoors can really dry out little ones' eyes. My neighbour brought her toddler to a paediatric eye specialist when she noticed the same excessive blinking, and the doctor mentioned that screen time also plays a part because kids tend to blink less when they're staring at a tablet or TV, which dries the eyes out over time. It's also worth checking if your son is getting enough sleep, because apparently insufficient rest can affect how well the eyes produce tears too. Either way, since he's only 2 and the blinking has been going on for a bit, it's really best to get a proper check-up with a paediatrician or eye specialist just to rule out anything beyond dry eyes, better to be sure than to wonder!
