Asking for a friend: I was diagnosis having ezcema during 28th weeks and given hydrocortisone cream 0.5% by my gynae but it does not seem to help. Any remedies to relieve my itch and discomfort?

Please share some tips on how to sleep during pregnancy to reduce lower back and hip pain.

For me, I found that sleeping on my sides (left usually) helps a lot. As my tummy grew bigger, I found that sleeping with a pillow between my legs and another pillow under my tummy to relief some of the weight. I also had a pillow against my back, and 2 pillows under my head to ease heartburn. Towards the end of the pregnancy, it was safe to say that ex-husband only had 1 pillow for himself lol.

Do hair colors and Uv radiation given during facials affect the baby in the womb?

Regarding hair colouring/treatments, I've personally done my hair when I was 2 weeks away from my due date. I bleached and coloured my hair and the only uncomfortable part about the entire process was my bum hurting because I had to sit for so long. I had asked my gynae prior to this if it's safe for myself and the unborn baby and I got chuckled at! He gave me the go-ahead and so I did ;)

Someone just told me that that women with tattoos on their lower back cannot get an epidural. Is this true?

This is a common question, as the popularity of tattoos has been recently increasing. In particular, the lower back seems to be a very common site. The tattoo pigments are inert dyes, which do not result in any bodily reactions once the initial tattoo healing process has been completed. The amount of pigment that is used in the tattoo process is quite miniscule. The needles used for spinal or epidural anesthesia do not carry pieces, or even particles, of skin or tissues into the spinal or epidural spaces. Once the tattoo has healed, the dyes or inks are fixed in the cells within the skin, and cannot be mobilized by a needle. There is no evidence that any harm will come from placing a clean needle through a healed tattoo. Although some anesthesiologists may be reluctant to perform an epidural directly through a tattoo, most of the time this can be done safely. In many, but not all, cases the anesthesiologist can find an area of non-tattooed skin to insert the needle. It is always best to ask an anesthesiologist at your hospital to discuss this concern.

What are the implications of having an induced labour?

I think one of the most common fear pregnant women have about getting induced is that their body wouldn't be sufficiently prepare and they are not able to dilate quick enough. In the worse case, the gynae will have to call for an emergency C-section if the baby is in distress/labour too long. A friend of mine was induced at 39 weeks because her baby was getting too big. She was in the delivery suite for over 48 hours before the gynae made the decision for an emergency C-section because she was only 5cm dilated.

Any of you felt shameful of your pregnancy body and didn't like posting up pictures of yourself? I have a friend who is having a hard time adjusting with her new shape and cannot come to terms with it. How can I encourage her to embrace the changes?

I took regular pictures during pregnancy but that's because I love to! I feel mums should celebrate their body during pregnancy! If she doesn't want to, it's ok. Whatever keeps her happy
