I am quite fond of makeup but somebody recently told me that I shouldn't do so during my pregnancy (I am 2 months pregnant). Is there any truth to it? Should I shun wearing makeup?

I wouldn't say shun completely but there are ingredients that you should look out for and avoid in your current stash of make up. For example, parabens have been linked to birth defects, miscarriage and reproductive problems while Phthalates are known to alter hormone levels. A popular adage I've also heard is to avoid red lipstick as some were found to have traces of lead in their formulations. I don't know anyone who has given up make up completely during pregnancy but instead they reduce the amount worn. Instead of the usual full blown glam, perhaps you can consider a toned down natural look with organic cosmetics?

TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) tests are routinely ordered for newborns as part of the screening program to diagnose the thyroid disorder and enable the treatment of infants with congenital (present at birth) hypothyroidism. THS test is a common blood test used to evaluate how well the thyroid gland is working. The thyroid gland is located at the lower front of the neck. TSH is produced by the pituitary, a pea-sized gland located at the base of the brain.

Can 3mths+ pregnant woman start to drink fish & papaya soup to stimulate breast milk?

Till how many months am I supposed to have calcium and iron supplements after delivery?

My gynecologist advised me to take iron supplements for the period of 3 months and calcium supplements till I breastfeed my baby. Calcium and iron supplements are must for a nursing mother, otherwise she will be having deficiency. During the time of breastfeeding, the mother is not only eating for herself but also providing nutrition for the baby. A baby's need for calcium is significant in the early months -- for teething and bone development of the entire body. If the mother does not take enough calcium in her foods and dietary supplements, she will begin to lose her own calcium (from bones) that will get passed on to the baby through breast milk. This is why most doctors recommend iron and calcium supplements to the nursing mother. It is advised not to take iron and calcium supplements at same time as calcium slows down the absorption of iron. Iron should be taken after meals with some amount of vitamin C (citrus fruits and vegetables) for better absorption. Calcium should be taken between meals.
