Usually would include physical screening for features of prematurity, birth defects and abnormalities of the heart, lungs, abdomen, genitals, neurological system, back and limbs. Baby’s blood will also be routinely sent for screening of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiencies, congenital hypothyroidism and inborn errors of metabolism. Before being discharged from the hospital, a hearing test will be conducted as well.
