My understanding is that for babies born at 32 weeks, it’s often helpful to look at their corrected age rather than actual age. He may still be adjusting and developing at his own pace.
Some babies are naturally fussier than others too. The grumpiness, crying and making noises during feeds could be due to things like gas, reflux, overtiredness, or simply temperament. If he’s feeding well, gaining weight and having enough wet diapers, those are reassuring signs.
That said, if the crying seems excessive, he’s difficult to settle most of the time, or you’re worried about the noises during feeding, do bring it up with your paediatrician. They can check if there’s anything else going on and give you peace of mind.
