Is rice based cereal better than wheat based cereal for infants?

I've had this discussion with my dad previously about rice VS wheat cereal. Naturally, rice cereal is the common first choice for many Singaporeans, largely out of tradition but also because it is considered low-allergy, easily digested, and easy to mix and eat. My daughter was on rice cereal when she was younger because it was hassle free to prepare it. But,there is no medical evidence that rice need be the first cereal choice as it is low protein and high in carbohydrates. Some parents prefer wheat based cereal. Aside from the fact that they are digestible and generally low-allergy, it helps facilitate the development of wheat allergies and celiac disease, or if this actually decreases the likelihood. But having said all that, I personally skipped the cereal process and when straight to pureed vegetablea and fruits instead as I find them much more healthier and more nutritious.

I prefer wheat as it is more nutritious, rich in carbs, and easy on a baby's digestive system. Also, it acts as a good natural laxative, easily digestible and is good for oral health. And not too long after, when baby is older enough to start with ground meats, they would make porridge with minced chicken or turkey. They thought that rice cereals, while convenient, provided little nutritional value.
Read morepersonally for a start, rice cereal is encouraged as it is easy to prepare and also easy to digest. it is also available islandwide. all you need to do is to mix with water or if you prefer, breast milk is fine too. to me, convenience is more important. when baby is bigger, you can then opt for other choices available.
