Is my baby more likely to be colicky with formula?

It is unlikely that formula will increase the probability of a baby getting colic. While the cause of colic is still a mystery, it seemed to be related to the baby swallowing more air during feeding. As such, since breastfeeding usually involves having the baby in an upright position, it will minimize the amount of air being swallowed during the feeding. Bottle-feeding, on the other hand, is usually done with the baby in a lying down position which causes more air to be consumed. Therefore, it could be that bottle-feeding, rather than the formula milk, is causing the perceived difference. Especially since there are babies who are exclusively breastfed having colic. Since the cause of colic has not been identified, it seemed that it is more dependent on the baby, rather than the type of milk that he/she is getting that is determining whether the baby gets colic.
