Is it normal to develop piles (hemorrhoids) during pregnancy, and how can they be managed safely

I’m currently pregnant and have recently started experiencing discomfort, swelling, and pain around the rectal area, which I suspect might be piles (hemorrhoids). Is this a common condition during pregnancy? What causes it, and are there safe and effective ways to relieve the symptoms without harming the baby? I would appreciate advice on home remedies, lifestyle changes, or treatments that are recommended for pregnant women.

Yes, piles are quite common during pregnancy because of the extra pressure and hormonal changes. I had bleeding, pain during bowel movements, and a swollen lump after giving birth. I was diagnosed with Grade 3 haemorrhoids, and Dr Chew Min Hoe performed haemorrhoid surgery after my pregnancy. I am thankful I found an experienced colon doctor in Singapore when I needed help.🤍
