I'm becoming an angry mother and I often find myself yelling at my kids. Can I change?

Ofcourse, you can change. Trust me, I find myself in the same shoes. I yell at my baby in the heat of the moment but then I feel so guilty that go to my child like a kid myself and plead guilty. I say sorry and all and crack something funny to make him laugh, and he even forgives me. But I think to what level I have stooped to yell so much at little kid and then later on acting like a fool. I am working on it. Now, whenever something happens where I know that I can lose my temper, I stop there immediately. For example, if I am making him read something he doesn't listen (and I am seriously putting my energy into making him read) I say, "Okay, let's read later. I don't think you are in the mood to read." This way, I have stopped at the very moment where I know my anger will start building up. What I suggest from my own experience is that kids have immense energy, but we don't, so it's always good that we take a step back. Whenever there is an argument or your kid is not listening, break the thread of that conversation. Either get up or start doing your own thing or pack up all and take the kids to the park, and if the things don't seem to settle down seek intervention from third party, be it your husband.

Of course you can! Growing up, my mother was the scariest, angriest and fiercest woman I know. We were all terribly afraid of her, including my dad haha. But she mellowed down gradually and by the time me and my brothers finished high school, she stopped being angry. I guess we were not a handful anymore by then. As her children, the older we got, the more responsible we became and we didn't act up as much anymore so our mom also stopped yelling a lot. Don't worry about it, mommy, all will be well :)

Being a mother is definitely not an easy job. Mothers are humans too and raising kids can take a toll physically and emotionally. Take some me time out for yourself daily. Go out of the house and do something which makes you happy. Get enrolled in a gym or yoga class. This will keep your body and mind positive. Don't think that kids will always behave the way you want to, sometimes you have to let go things.

Never too late! !! I can relate to you as I experience the same. The fact that you realise what you are doing is not right is the first step towards improvement. It needs conscious effort all the time to keep your temper under control. ALL THE BEST.
