Is it important to be working woman to earn respect in society or in family? I work day in and day out but at times feel that had I been working outside and earning, my family would have more respect for me. Does working full time affect the way people look at you?

A friend of mine is planning to have a baby through IVF even through she already has two boys. She says that she wants a girl child. Don't you think that we all who want to be parents should think about adoption as an option when there are countless children whose lives will be changed if people like you and me become responsible as a member of society?

in my knowledge, IVF is a costly and a very painful procedure. it's good that she wants a girl child. you may take her to an orphanage without her knowledge and make her realise the benefits of adoption. because action speaks louder than words. what she does is totally her choice...but may be after seeing she might change her opinion.

What can be the best breakfast that can be made in a jiffy and high on nutritional value? I feel too lazy to make anything for myself and most of the times go without having breakfast. I am lactose intolerant so please suggest something that is without milk.

Try oats, dahlia, boiled eggs, poha with chopped vegetables. Butter toast, butter milk, soaked almonds and walnuts along with whatever you eat. Or you can have a bowl of fresh fruits.

We have a pet dog, and the problem is that my youngest daughter gets jealous when I love the dog a little or care for him, which any way I have to because being an animal he cannot do things like taking food, bath, etc., on his own. How do I make my daughter understand that there is no comparison between him and her?

depending on your daughter's age, you can help her share some caring duties for the pet. this will definitely help to strengthen the bond. also, make sure that you spend a lot of quality time with her and tell her each day that you love her. explain to her that you love her the most, and that the pet is like her little brother or sister, and there are some things that it cannot do on its own, so you have to help do it. sometimes, ask another family member to take up some of the caring duties, so that your daughter does not feel so jealous.

My neighbour with whom I am in good terms, spoke to my other friends that my husband can be seduced easily, and he will be ready to mingle with her and she just has to give him a nod. I know my husband has no intention as such and he is a friendly in nature with men and women in the same way, which she may have misunderstood. How do I deal with the situation? She is my next door neighbour.

At what age should one allow sleepover for kids?

hey Shruti, it entirely depends on where you are sending your kid, how far it is from your place and how much trust you have in the entire family and not just in the child. i started sending my elder one after she turned 9 and that too only with some of my closest friends. they also stay very near, in fact some of them are in the same building, or a 10 minute walk away. these are families that we have known for more than a decade now and our kids have literally grown up together. so there is already a lot of trust and comfort level.

I am visiting my SIL's home, and she has picked up a job. She goes without cooking anything, and I, am the one cooking breakfast, lunch. For dinner, either she orders food or her maid makes. She doesn't even instruct her maid to cook in the afternoons if she doesn't herself do it. I feel so frustrated being here. And I have come all the way, because she insisted us coming to them. What do I do, I feel so bad?

i think you should directly talk to her about this and ask her if her maid can take up some of the cooking responsibilities. on another angle, since you are visiting, maybe you can take the maid's help for breakfast and lunch, and prepare something yourself for your SIL for dinner. she will surely love this gesture after she comes back home from a tiring day. imagine yourself in her shoes, i am sure you too would feel happy and loved if she did this for you :) if you are absolutely not happy then you should go back before the relationship takes a bad turn.

Recently, I had a subtle displeasing incident where I was planning to make a trip to my brother's home and his wife did not respond well because she did not want me at their place because their 8 year old son's exams were going on. My husband, my daughter and I were planning to go for just one day, and that too on a weekend. I felt very bad when she did not showed any welcoming attitude which is why I cancelled my programme and my husband went as he had some official work. I felt hurt and I do not feel like talking on regular basis to her like I used to do. I am feeling I should maintain distance as she changed her attitude towards me for just a tiny thing. Do you think I am right?

why are you so upset about this? her son had an exam and you all were visiting and she may have been stressed about it, that's all. let it go, as this is your family and such small incidents should not come in the way of something that is so important. i don;t think that she has changed her attitude towards you at all, it was just one day. and you yourself said 'for such a tiny thing.' then let it go, right? :) and don't think so much.
