Elevate legs when sleeping. Some are blessed with no retention and some are not. I think sometimes water retention is also inevitable
I elevate my legs with pillow. And wear compression socking every night. Did not have any water retention even until given birth

Reduce salt intake Drink more water Lift up your leg against the wall for 30mins Wear compression stockings.

Cannot really prevent it. I'm experiencing it now.
