You know my sister-in-law has this notion that one should be an all rounder in today's world and she puts that in practise on her son. She takes care of his studies part, as in, she teaches him and apart from that there is one season when he is learning skating then another he is in football team and in karate. She lets him be in a particular class for say 5 or 6 months the least and if he misses out on some classes, he would go in another and never loses the track of any one of them. Also, she is very particular in inculcating reading habits in him. She reads to him each night before sleeping. Introduces him to new authors. And shops for him, Books. She does work shops with and call his friends over, and they would make an origami book on say; Ramayan or Sachin Tendulkar, or Vand Gogh etc. So, he is aware of so many people, things from various walks of life. So, I think, one has to introduce children to various spheres and not limit them to just one or a few things.
Extra curricular activities is the key to your child being an all rounder. Make sure that your little one participates in as many quizzes & competitions he comes across. This will ensure the right exposure. I have recently come across a parent-child quiz that you might be interested in. It's call Dell Champs, and there's a Rs.1 Lakh scholarship up for grabs. You might want to have a look at it: http://bit.ly/2bbcqn0 Hope it helps!
Start the experiment game, let your child try up new things and decide to what suits him or her. Eventually, you might surprised that the child surpasses any expectations. So, let the child decide and progress in any particular activity.
I think this is more to do with the child's interest then a parents, cause every parent wants their child to become an all rounder. Its all about inculcating balance in the socio-psychological environment of the child.

Your child may not be good at everything, and that's okay. But to make sure he becomes an all-rounder, encourage him to read about new topics. Also you can enroll him in various classes to spark his interests.
No child can ever be forced to become an all-rounder! Every child has his/her capabilities and talents. Nurture that talent and encourage him/her to be confident and happy.
