Equally, if your family finances or values mean you’d rather not give pocket money, this is also an important lesson for your children.

My son spends his pocket money buying stickers and erasers from the school bookstore instead of buying food to eat. Any ideas on how I can tell him to stop doing that and to eat instead? I've repeatedly told him to just eat and ask me before he buys anything, but he doesn't do that. So frustrating.

Should I hand over pocket money to children on a reward basis?

My daughter came back one day and said that one her friends forgot to bring pocket money. She wanted to lend her $1 to buy some food and was scolded by the teacher. She felt really bad and said that she just wanted to help her friend. I sort of understand why the teacher scolded her but also don't want to dampen my daughter's spirit of being a good friend to someone in need. What do u mummies think I should do?

What is the right age to start giving pocket money to kids? Our daughter is six now and she is saying her friends get.....

Do you allow your kids to buy stationery with the pocket money they save? I find that my son (aged 11) comes home with all sort of knick knacks from the school bookstore, instead of eating a proper meal! Should I therefore increase his pocket money? Or limit his shopping sprees at the store?
