Stored breast milk taste fishy

Any mummy out there with stored breast milk tasting fishy/ metallic? What do you do with it? I have a stack stored in the freezer for 1-2months. When I thawed it, it tasted fishy/metallic whether chilled or warm up. thank you in advance for your experience sharing!

Oh don't worry, this is actually quite common! From what I've heard, it's usually either high lipase activity (a natural enzyme that breaks down milk fat) or oxidation, lipase tends to give a more soapy smell, while fishy or metallic usually points more toward oxidation, though both can overlap. Either way, the milk is generally still safe, and the real question is just whether your baby will accept it. The key thing I've heard from other mums is to try scalding your milk before freezing future batches, you heat it just to the point of small bubbles at the edges, then cool it quickly before storing, and that helps deactivate the lipase before it has a chance to break down the fats. For the stash you already have, some babies still take it fine even with the altered taste, so it's worth trying a small amount first before you decide to discard the whole lot. That said, since it does touch on feeding your baby directly, it's worth running it by your PD or a lactation consultant just to be sure, especially if the smell seems off beyond the usual lipase or oxidation range.

My World Preschool

Due to the recent preschool saga. Am having second thoughts of sending my LO to infant care. Any thoughts on MY WORLD preschool at Sembawang Crescent? Do share your thoughts with me if possible 🙏🙏

Honestly, from what I've heard, My World at Sembawang Crescent has a pretty warm and nurturing environment, the teachers there are known for being caring and quite dedicated, which is reassuring especially if you're anxious about infant care after everything that's been in the news lately. That said, it's worth knowing that their approach is very play-based, so there are no worksheets, no tracing, and no tingxie or spelling, some parents love that philosophy, but others who prefer a more structured academic foundation have found it doesn't quite match what they're looking for. My neighbour brought her little one there and said it genuinely felt like a second home, which she valued a lot at that age. So I'd say if you prioritise a nurturing, low-pressure environment over early academic prep, it could be a good fit, but if structured learning is important to you, it might be worth visiting and asking the principal directly about the curriculum before deciding.

Hi mummies. My newborn is currently 1 mth+. She has a routine at night where will be fussy and it will usually start around the same timing eg 12 midnight til 3am. Gave her milk, change diapers, burp her, carry and hugged her. But she will still scream. And she will fall asleep at 3am cos by then thats when she will be tired from crying. Not sure what im doing wrong and i feel bad seeing my baby crying helplessly. Does any mummy experience the same? I hope im not alone Pls share tips for fussy baby if have any. Tq!

Baby drinks milk with 1 and a half hour interval but cannot finish milk?

if its BM, can feed within 2 hours of first touch of the bottle. if FM, within 1 hour of making

Is it normal for baby not to poop for 2 to 3 days ?

I tried guiding baby to poop but no luck. Worried about her digestion.#advicepls #firsttimemom

I guess your baby's coming two months old? They have a pattern whereby either every feeding baby will poo or two to three days later will poo. And the day baby poo, it can be two to three times. Otherwise if this worry you do bicycle exercise for baby, massage, tummy time after every feeding for 10 mins. It helps with neck strength as well as digestion. Sometimes tummy too much wind or gassy therefore their decision process differs.

Hi mummies, anyone newborn skin is like in red n white patches? I just realised my 25days old newborn's hands are like red n white pictures shown in post. Can anyone advice is this something I need to worry about?

How much to feed 6 weeks old?

Hi mummies, can I check how much do you feed your baby when about 6 weeks old going to 7 weeks soon? My son currently on formula milk feed 75ml every 3 hours, is that Ok? Pls do share... TQ

Yes that's fine unless you do BF direct latch then that's like 20 to 45 mins depending on baby's milk intake. For FM that's fine with interval of 3 hrs gap.

Tailbone pain after birth.

Hi mummies, anyone experience tailbone pain after birth ? How to relieve the pain?

I had it for first pregnancy, I told my massage aunty to do deep tissue massage and put pressure massage on the tailbone. Felt relieve after 1 week of massage for confinement.

Axe Oil smell too “spicy” for LO?

I’m co-sleeping with my baby. However, I was having bad headaches so I applied Axe Oil (Feng You) on myself. But baby started making weird sounds. Is the smell bad for them? Will the smell be too “spicy” for them?

Strong-smelling oils like Axe Oil can be quite overwhelming for babies since their airways are so sensitive, and it makes sense that your little one reacted to it. It might be worth checking with your PD just to be safe, especially since you are co-sleeping and the exposure is quite close. In the meantime, you could try applying it further away from baby or airing out the room a bit before settling down together.
