Advice on switching to Higher Ward Type

Hello mummies! First time mummy here, I’m at 36weeks now and am considering to switch to Ward A in SGH.. Question is, is it too late? Also do I really need to book a preferred gynae (and I know this depends on availability) or can I assume we can rely on assigned gynae? #advicepls #firstmom

it's never too late to switch... For whether to book a preferred gynae, are you comfortable with any assigned gynae? you can also find out more about the gynae specialisation or profile... anyway, it's still subjected to the gynae availability

Curious New Mum

Hi Mummysss! Need advice/POV.. (thank you in advance🫰🏼) This is my 1st pregnancy and I'm at 38week + 4days. My EDD is 20th Aug but my nxt appt will be on the 15th Aug. Let's say there's still no sign of labour/contractions till 15th Aug , what shld I likely to expect on my next appt (15th Aug) ? Since it's like 5 days away from EDD🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️? Anyway the chosen hospital is KK for us . #pleasehelp #advicepls #firstbaby

If baby is doing well inside and have enough fluid, I would suggest to wait for baby’s cue. Depending on gynae, they might ask if you wanna induce. I had to be induced 3 days after my EDD due to low fluid 😅

Complete placenta previa

Any mommies experienced complete placenta previa? Did the c sec went smoothly? First time experiencing and quite worried.. wondering how is the procedure like..?

Hello I am in healthcare. If your Obstetrician has informed you of complete placenta previa then there are certain precautions he/she would have informed you of and that you need to avoid moderate/strenuous exercise and to get plenty of rest. Generally speaking the C Section is quite safe so don't worry.

Hello all, im 34 weeks 5 days of pregnant and positive with covid. Called KKH but they recommend me to go clinic if needed medication as i only have mild runny nose. Overall im good. Unless there's discomfort on my tummy and kkh advice to call one of there number for further advice. What you'll do when positive?

I had covid when I was 3 mths pregnant. I had mild symptoms too. I just treat it like any normal cough and cold. I ate meds when needed and just let the sickness ride its course.

Subsidised route at KKH

Any mum gave birth through subsidised route at KKH? Are u able to give a birth plan to doctor/midwives? Any charges? Also how is service for B2/C wards? I’m worried that the care is less if I don’t switch to private on day itself :/

its hard to say thrs so many different experiences amongst all the mummies..it really depends on ur luck if u take subsidised. pvt however gynae is fixed so u can read reviews on ur chosen doc..ive taken both subsidised n pvt and had good experience for both..

Hospitalisation leave due to low blood count

Hi, currently 34weeks and private kkh patient. I’ve gotten a few blackout incident for the past week as i have low blood count. As much as I would like to rest, my job is rather tough to be on frequent MC. Any mummies faced anything similar and able to get HL from gynae instead? HL is better as it would be easier to be away than to be on unexpected MC. TIA!

Yes! Talk to your gynae about it. I was anemic and my KK gynae gave me HL from wk 33

Iron infusion/IV during pregnancy

Hi, any mummies was advice to get iron IV/infusion at 3rd trimester due to low blood count? My gynae suggested me to get admitted for 1 day and get the iron IV as up dosing my iron tablets might not be that effective for me. Can share what you had to do and was the IV effective? Will we get hospitalisation leave after the procedure?

Yeah I went for iron infusion at the iron clinic. It was really good. Many mummies in third trimester need iron infusion as the fetus is relying heavily on you for all their nutrition needs. Look for dr Dheeraj Khiatani or Dr Mythili at the iron suites. They specialise in maternity iron care and vitamin d too

Can share hospital bill for TMC for twin delivery. Csect with epidural...

Congrats on your twins pregnancy! From what I've heard, a single baby C-sect with epidural at TMC in a 1-bedder with companion came to around $4,200+ for a 3D2N stay when everything went smoothly, so for twins you'd likely be looking at quite a bit more given the longer recovery and two babies to factor in. Someone in my mum group mentioned that TMC bills can vary quite a bit depending on your ward type, how long you stay, and whether there are any complications, so it's worth getting a detailed estimate from their billing counter upfront. The trade-off with TMC is that many mums feel the care is more personalised compared to restructured hospitals, but the out-of-pocket costs do tend to be higher, so checking what your Medishield Life and integrated shield plan covers for C-sect specifically will really help you plan better.
