help on confinement lady

hi mum , can anyone recommend me good and responsible confinement lady ?? thanks alot

Finding a good confinement lady can feel really stressful, especially when you're already so tired and just want someone you can truly trust with your newborn and yourself. You are definitely not alone in this, so many of us have gone through the same anxious search. I don't have a personal contact to share right now, but I'd really suggest posting in the main feed here as a lot of mums in this community have strong recommendations from their own experience. Word of mouth from fellow mums is honestly the most reliable way to find someone good lah.

Pregnant with Fibroids

My fibroid grew to 8cm on my 16th week. Doc advised me to choose csec for my delivery as most probably the fibroid will block my baby from turning downwards to engage into my birth canal. Any1 experience the same but manage to go for normal delivery?

It must feel really overwhelming to get that news, especially when you were probably hoping for a natural delivery, and you are definitely not alone in feeling torn about it. Every pregnancy is different though, so while some mums in similar situations have managed a normal delivery, it really depends on how the fibroid is positioned and how things progress as your baby grows. I would say keep an open conversation with your gynae at every visit, and if you want more clarity, it is worth asking for a second opinion from another specialist at KKH or a private hospital just to feel more at ease. Whatever route you end up taking, the most important thing is that both you and baby come out safe and well.

3d/4d ultrasound scans

Hello! Does anybody know where I can walk in for 3d/4d scans? Apparently kkh doesnt have that. Tia!

A few of us have tried walk-in 3D/4D scans before, and from what we've gathered, Singapore Diagnostics is a good option, they have quite a few centres around the island and do accept walk-ins, so you don't necessarily need to book in advance. The scans are really lovely because they focus on your baby's features rather than the internal stuff, so you actually get to see little expressions like yawns and smiles in real time, which is just the sweetest thing. One of my mum friends also mentioned that some standalone baby scan studios offer this service too, so it's worth asking around your area to see what's closest to you!

No signs of labour

39weeks today, still no signs of labour~ I’m so anxious nervous even though this is my 4th pregnancy🥹

I know exactly how you feel -- even my friend who had her third said she was still second-guessing every little twinge near the end! A few of us in my mum group have had babies who gave zero warning signs and then came really fast, so try not to read too much into the quietness. Your body knows what it's doing, and sometimes baby just waits until they're fully ready. Hang in there, you're so close now.

Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS)

Are there any parents with children who have been diagnosed or suspected of Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS)?

A few of us in my mum circle have come across BWS, so you are definitely not alone in trying to find out more! From what the mums have shared, the key things to watch for are the enlarged tongue (macroglossia), overall larger body size, and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in the newborn period, some babies needed close NICU monitoring just for the glucose alone. One of my mum friends whose child was assessed at KKH said the team there was quite thorough in explaining the overgrowth aspect and also flagged that regular screening for childhood tumours, especially kidney-related ones like Wilms tumour, is really important as part of follow-up care. A few mums also mentioned that some children develop hemihypertrophy, where one side of the body grows slightly larger than the other, which can sometimes be how BWS first gets suspected. Do bring all your concerns to your paediatrician or a genetic specialist who can guide you properly for your child's specific situation!

Has anyone given birth at mount alvernia? What are the additional cost required to pay on top of the maternity package? And do we have to pay full amount of package during admission?

the billing breakdown at private hospitals can be so confusing, especially when you are already juggling so much during the final stretch of pregnancy! From what I have heard, at Mount Alvernia the package usually covers your lodging and meals (around $80 plus per day for a single room), but the doctor's attendance and delivery fees are charged separately on top, those alone can come to around $2,000 or more, and the PD's attendance fee is another $500 or so, so your total out-of-pocket before Medisave can easily reach $5,000 to $6,000 for a normal delivery. My neighbour delivered there and mentioned they were able to use Medisave to offset a good chunk, around $2,100, which helped quite a bit. On the nicer side, she also said the nurses were really thoughtful, they even gave her extra maternity pads without charging for them, which are small things but you do appreciate them when you are recovering. I hope that gives you a clearer picture, and do check with the hospital directly on the admission deposit so there are no surprises on the day itself!

A1 NUH ward final bills

Hello mummies, anyone can share with me their final bills for normal delivery at NUH a1 ward?

For A1 ward normal delivery at NUH, most mums I've heard from paid around $5,000, $8,000 cash out of pocket for a 2, 3 day stay, depending on whether they had epidural and which doctor they were under. My neighbour delivered there and her final bill came to about $5,300 cash for two days, which she said was reasonable once she factored in the doctor and baby fees as separate items. Just note that the baby's bill comes separately, so don't be caught off guard when you see two invoices!

For NUH A1 ward normal delivery, the cash amount after Medisave/insurance is roughly $5,000, $8,000 depending on your doctor, length of stay, and any complications, two days seems to be the more common stay. My neighbour delivered there and paid around $5,300 cash for a two-day normal delivery, which she said was reasonable compared to what others she knew paid at other hospitals. Just ask NUH's billing department for a detailed breakdown upfront so there are no surprises.

Any recommendation

hello mummies, any kkh private gynae to recommend? #firsttimemom #advicepls

A few of us in my mum group have been through KKH private and the names that keep coming up are Dr Seet Meei Jiun (really well-liked, very thorough) and Dr Rajeshwari Kathirvel, who is actually Head of O&G there, so you know she has the experience. If your pregnancy is more complicated or you are considering a C-section, one of my mum friends swears by Prof John Tee, she said he is very direct and no-nonsense, so just be prepared that he will tell you straight rather than hold your hand through every little worry. Some mums love that style, a few found it a bit blunt, so it really depends on what you need from your gynae. Do factor in waiting times at KKH as well, it can get quite long, but most feel the quality of care is worth it!

Gestational Diabetes

Hi mommies, Hi got my GDM results. The fasting and after 2hrs results came well within range, but results for after 1 hour was little higher than the max range. Anyone faced the same? Do I still need to test 7 times a day with accu check glucometre? Anyone in similar situation? I have the consultation with dietician next week.

Oh don't worry too much, a few of us in my mum group went through the same thing where only one of the three readings was out of range, and the doctor explained that technically even one elevated value can be enough to flag GDM for closer monitoring, so your care team is right to follow up. Someone in my mum group mentioned that her doctor had her do the 7-times-a-day finger prick testing at first just to get a two-week baseline picture, but once her numbers looked consistently stable, they eased off the frequency, so it really depends on what your O&G and dietician decide after reviewing your pattern. The dietician consultation is actually really useful, a few of us found that small tweaks like spacing out carbs and pairing them with protein made a big difference in keeping that one-hour number in check. Do double-check with your own doctor though, since every case is a little different and they know your full history best!
