When are you all planning to pierce your little girls ears? where to do it?

Most of my family and friends with baby girls pierce their daughters ears pretty early -- a month or two after birth. I reckon this is quite common in Malay communities; my ears were pierced when I was less than 2 months old and it was done the old school way -- by an elderly midwife type using a sterilised needle and some string. That being said, I don't think I'd pierce my little girl's ears THAT early. I'd wait till she's old enough to understand what's happening atleast, maybe 4 or 5?
