What is the side effects of jaundice, besides hearing problem? Thanks.
The type of jaundice you mentioned, that causes hearing problem is called "Kernicterus". It is a rare but serious complication of untreated jaundice in babies caused by excess bilirubin damaging the brain or central nervous system. Besides hearing problems, if left untreated, babie can suffer from learning difficulties in the future, poor development of teeth, involuntary twitching, problems maintaining normal eye movements and in worst case scenario, cerebral palsy. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Jaundice-newborn/Pages/Complications.aspx

Other signs would include baby sleeping more than what a usual newborn would. He/she may seem lethargic and will not cry for feeds every three to four hours as per the normal reactions of a normal newborn.
