Here are some natural ways to induce labour: Spicy food Eating spicy food may irritate the intestines and causes the uterus to contract. While there had been no studies to ascertain its effectiveness, it seemed to be a better option as compared to another common method, which is consuming castor oil. The latter is believed to have the same effect but may bring about nasty side effects such as nausea, a bad case of diarrhea and dehydration. Walking Walking is also another method that is relatively safe though, like eating spicy food, there is no guarantee of any results. It is believed that walking may help draw the baby down into the mother’s pelvis with the help of gravity and movements of the hips. The pressure of baby on the mother’s pelvis may then aid in inducing labour. Acupuncture Acupuncture is believed to be able to help stimulate uterine activity and nudge the baby into action. These are three methods which I felt are relatively harmless. There are ways to induce labor naturally: 1. Acupuncture - A study carried out at University of North Carolina and found that women who got acupuncture were more likely to go into labor without a medical "push." http://www.webmd.com/baby/inducing-labor-naturally-can-it-be-done 2. Having sex - sex releases prostaglandins, hormone-like substances that are like the medications used to induce labor. http://www.webmd.com/baby/inducing-labor-naturally-can-it-be-done 3. Raspberry leaf tea - shorten 2nd stage of labor although no direct link to induce onset of labor. http://www.inducelabornow.com/raspberry-leaf-tea-to-induce-labor 4. Accupressure - A Chinese massage, acupressure softens the joints and removes tension from the body and thus induce labor. http://www.inducelabornow.com/acupressure-to-induce-labor You should always consult your gynae on the method you intend to use to induce labor at home.

For induction purposes, eat a small bowl of red bean and barley soup made with Chinese rock sugar three times a day. In Chinese medicine, red beans are prized for their health benefits, specifically for improving blood supply and circulation — of benefit to pregnant women. And barley, especially the water in which barley has been cooked, is a natural diuretic that can help with fluid reduction — especially swelling in the legs, a common issue during pregnancy. clinical studies in China have shown that barley water is effective in helping to induce early labour. But as its anti-fluid retention effects are powerful, do not consume in large quantities without first obtaining medical advice.

1. Membrane sweeping This is usually performed by midwife or doctor near the term of labor by inserting finger into vaginal to separate the amniotic sac from the uterine wall. 2. Exercise Exercises such as frequent walking and climbing stairs will help baby descend farther into the birth canal and dilate your cervix through simple pressure. 3. Eating spicy food Spicy foods induce body to release prostaglandins throughout the digestive process. These hormones can cause contractions in the uterus. http://www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/natural-ways-to-induce-labor

I think most of the things are not scientifically proven - the only two I know that is based on science is the playing of breasts and nipples - as this mimics breastfeeding and causes uterine contractions and sex - as semen contains ingredients that are found in labour inducing medications!

Semen helps to ripen the cervix. When the women reaches orgasm during love making, her body produces oxytocin which stimulates surges or waves. All natural inducement methods prepares the body for labour. Only when her body is ready then will it works.

I heard from my relatives that eating dates can induce labour. Apparently studies have shown that women who ate 6 dates a day for the 4 weeks leading up to their due date were significantly more dilated and had shorter labour processes.

We tried nipple stimulation, sex, going for a drive on a bumpy road, castor oil, raspberry leaf tea, cold drinks, hot drinks, baths, curry, long walk for hours, and none of it worked! My son was 9 days overdue!

Good suggestion. Perhaps not cold drink.

put 1 tbsp of olive oil in hot glass of milk and drink it with 3-4 dates. My cousin told me to start it after 37 week but i drank it on the last day of my 36th week and in the morning i went into labor.

plus i started walking also

I tried doing squats from an induce labor video I found on youtube. It made me dilate 1cm
