My Son Injured His ACL During Sports – What Should We Do Next?

My teenage son recently injured his knee while playing sports, and the doctor suspects it's an ACL injury. His knee swelled up right away, and he's having trouble walking without pain. We're waiting for further tests, but as a mother I'm worried about whether he'll need surgery or if physical therapy might be enough. Has anyone gone through this with their child? What questions should I ask the orthopedic specialist during our appointment, and how can I help my son recover as safely as possible? #acl

hello mummy! my son also had an ACL tear before and had surgery with Dr Henry Chan, our orthopaedic doctor in Singapore. his knee was quite swollen and the ACL was torn, so surgery was needed in his case, followed by rehab and physiotherapy.it was definitely not easy seeing him go through recovery, but thankfully he did well and slowly got back to his usual activities. i know it’s so worrying, but I do think you should follow the doctor’s advice and take the rehab one step at a time. Hope your little one is doing okay too! 🤍🙏
