Yes, for younger babies they take less portion for each meal and thus afternoon snack is a need for them to fill up the tummy. Normally I will give milk or some light biscuits or bread for their afternoon snakcs. I offer snacks around 3pm and to make sure it is not too close to the dinner time, i.e. 530pm.

Like Diana, I would give my son snacks in about 45min to 1 hour before his next milk time and I would normal give blueberries or mashed peas and put him it front of him on his tray so he can practice feeding himself

Yes, a well-timed snack can even out spikes in hunger and provide a much-needed energy boost between meals which would prevent them from having intervals of moody behaviour.
