Babies cry for many reasons, and crying is the main way babies communicate. It’s the way they capture your attention and express their needs. At first, it may be difficult to understand your baby’s different cries, but as you spend more time listening, you will become better at recognizing and meeting your child’s specific needs. For baby below 6 months old, these are the common reasons: -Sleepiness or fatigue -Wet or dirty diaper -Hunger -Overstimulation from noise or activity -Colic, acid reflux, or food allergies -Pain or illness -Gas For me, when baby is young, I will try to carry him/her when she is crying. Check his/her diaper and make sure baby is not crying out of hunger. If you are suspecting due to colic, you can do a massage to ease his/her pain. If the crying is due to sleepiness, I will swaddle baby to calm her/him down and gently rock/pat him/her to sleep. Also, I find using white noise method is very effective to calm down a crying baby. You can purchase a white noise machine or just download white noise apps in your smart phone. For me, I use hair dryer or vacuum cleaner normally.
