First menses postpartum (4 months pp)

Hi mummies. I just gave birth in Jan and stopped breastfeeding early Feb but my first period PP has yet to come back. The discharge was brown then abit of blood but no normal menses flow. For my #1, my first period came back after 2 months PP. Anyone experienced the same?

Every mum's body is so different after delivery, so please don't worry too much, 4 months postpartum with no full flow yet is actually quite normal, especially since your cycles can take a few months to regulate even after you stop breastfeeding. My friend experienced the exact same thing where she had that brownish spotting first before her proper period finally came, and her gynae told her the first few cycles postpartum tend to be longer and irregular than usual. Some mums do find the first real period comes with worse cramps and heavier flow than before, so just be prepared for that! If you're concerned though, it's always good to do a quick pregnancy test just to rule that out, and if nothing comes by month 5 or 6, a check-in with your gynae would give you peace of mind. Hang in there, your body is still adjusting, you're doing great!

Honestly, what you're describing sounds pretty normal, when you stop breastfeeding, your hormones need time to resettle, and the brown spotting before a proper flow is quite common as your body tries to kick-start again. My friend had a similar thing where it took almost two months after she stopped nursing before she got a real period, just spotting and light bleeding before that. Every pregnancy can reset your cycle differently too, so the fact that your first came back at 2 months PP doesn't mean this one will follow the same pattern. That said, if it drags on much longer with no proper flow, I'd still pop by your gynae just to rule things out, better to get peace of mind than to wait and wonder.
