Watery stools / diarrhea

Hi mummies! I have been experiencing watery stools more commonly during pregnancy. Anyone know what medicine or any food that is appropriate to take / cures it better during pregnancy? Does charcoal pills work? Po chai pills used to work for me pre-pregnancy but it’s highly not advisable to take during pregnancy. Thanks in advance!!

Hi! I totally understand, diarrhea during pregnancy can be quite frustrating, especially when your usual go-tos like Po Chai are off limits. From what I've gathered, most mums find that the safest approach is actually to let it run its course while staying hydrated (oral rehydration salts are pregnancy-safe and really helpful), and to look at what you're eating rather than jump straight to medicine. A few people have mentioned loperamide and kaolin-pectin combinations are considered safe in pregnancy, but honestly, diet tweaks often help just as much, some mums swear by gentle foods and even chamomile tea to settle their digestion. As for charcoal pills, I haven't heard strong feedback either way from other mums, so it's really one to check with your doctor about before trying. Since you're pregnant, it's worth having a quick chat with your OB or GP to rule out anything else and get their thumbs-up on what's safest for you specifically, they'll know your full picture best.

I had something similar before, and when it didn’t improve after a few days, I decided to see Dr Dennis Koh. He did some tests to find out what was causing my symptoms, and I was eventually diagnosed with IBD. Dr Koh prescribed medication and explained how I should manage my condition. After following the treatment for a few weeks, my symptoms improved and I was feeling much better.if your symptoms aren’t going away, I’d suggest getting them checked instead of just waiting it out. It’s better to know what’s causing them and discuss the right treatment with your doctor. Hope this helps!

my KKH gynae said charcoal pills is fine. Po chai pills not advisable as it’s Chinese medicine/herbs. Diarrhoea is common. It’s either you get diarrhoea or constipation during your pregnancy period. But do double check with your own gynae for assurance.
