In-depth hearing test

Hi mummies, anyone has sent their baby for an in-depth hearing test before? My 3 month old is due for an in-depth hearing test as she had previously failed her automated auditory response test at birth. Even though she passed the otoacoustic emissions test at 2 months, the doctor at KKH suggested for us to do an in-depth test to eliminate the possibility of auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder. Was wondering if there is really a need to do so as it involves sedatives and i also need to fast my baby for 3 hours prior to the test which is tricky because my baby feeds every hour.

My friend’s baby also failed the first screening but turned out okay after the detailed test, so try not to panic yet 🥺 The doctors usually recommend the in-depth test because ANSD can sometimes be missed on the other hearing tests, so they just want to be thorough while baby is still very young. The fasting and sedative part sounds stressful, but these tests are quite commonly done in babies and the team will monitor closely. Early detection is really important because if there is an issue, intervention early on gives much better outcomes. Maybe you can ask KKH: * whether natural sleep ABR is possible instead of sedation * exact fasting instructions based on baby’s age * how long the procedure will take Hopefully it’s just precautionary and everything comes back normal ❤️

nurses told me newborns can fail initially because of fluid in the ears. The in-depth test is more accurate, so try not to stress too much first mama ❤️
