At what age is speech delay typically detected?

Moms, my little one is 1 year old but hasn’t started saying any words yet—just babbling sounds like 'ah' and 'oh' or pointing at what he wants. Could this be considered speech delay? I’m thinking of taking him to the doctor, but my mom says it’s normal at this age. Still, I can’t shake off this uneasy feeling…

no worries mummy.... some couldn't speak till they are 2.5 years... depends on an individual child... but..... do speak a lot to your child... talk to him/her, read books, play videos, sing nursery rhymes... let him/her gather othe vocabs and they will slowly pick up the pace... however so.. need to bring to see a specialist if child still show no sign of speaking by 4.. by 4 children shd be able to speak and exchange replies with another person.. at least a word or even better a 2-3 words sentence..

My kid couldn't actually say any words properly at 1 yr old. Occasionally says papa mama when he feels like it. Had asked the PD, and it's normal. at least he gestures to express what he wants. Now nearing 15 months, he can say about 6,7 words? but also see mood lol.
