Newborn cries otw back from hospital

Hi mommies, ill be delivering in less than a month and would like to know. (KKH) What do we do or how do i feed my newborn if after delivery and we’re otw back home (assuming i live far from hospital) and baby cries for milk. But im unable to breastfeed due to either both unable to latch or my milk/colostrum have yet to kick in/too little. Any mommies encountered this before? Or what do i do ? Am i actually able to ask hospital for premade formula milk bottle for standby before going back incase baby need urgently? Since milk can last in room temp for atleast 2hrs. Want to prepare myself. #firstbaby #FTM

Hmm my milk kicked in pretty fast after 48hrs. But if ure discharged within 24hrs i think that might be an issue. I noticed that nurses feed baby with pre made formula (dumex i think in February) in a little cup when u dont have enough milk. But they will encourage u to pump and latch as much as u can muster the energy. Sometimes they top up ur milk with the formula. I was advised to stand by a tin of milk at home if i couldn't produce enough throughout the first few days. But was advised to feed using the cup method instead of bottle because of nipple confusion. This is if u really wanna breastfeed ur way through when u have the milk production. Anyway i never had the energy to cup feed throughout the night every hour because u *ded* of exhaustion. I felt like dying. so i kept latching and latching instead. Because cup feeding must switch on the lights hold the baby safely, watch how they swallow and burp proper. then dont forget the wash up clean up. by then baby awake for second feed.. same like pumping too. so so so exhausted. First few weeks remember not to let baby sleep through feeds at night ok? dont follow tiktok or *people* say oooooo my baby sleep ten hours la six hours. JUST NO🙄 Baby must wake up to feed as reiterated by gynaes and peads. Anyway to be fair first five days the size of baby stomach to milk intake is very very teeny tiny. And the milk is packed with all the needs even though 20 or 30 ml. Its different in nutrition for formula of course. So its not usually quantity of breastmilk produced, rather the quality. A nursing consultant will swing by ur ward after delivery to assist latching and answer all the anxious questions we have. How much to increase, when to maintain, what to watch out for if baby is drinking too little milk or too much air. I think feeding hygiene too. The nurses are all trained too so dont be shy to ask anytime. Anyway I was discharged with one little formula mixed bottle. If u can afford it, just take a taxi home and go straight to bed. U and baby wont like to be outdoors for awhile 😭

I just delivered. But not at KKH. You need to buy your own FM and leave it at home. Make sure you washed and sterilized all bottles on standby. Before discharge, request for hospital nursery to feed your BB (formula milk, they will give if you don’t have breast milk). They will sleep very soundly otw home and will not need to be fed for at least another 1-2 hours.

Wash and sterilise all milk bottles, standby a tin of fm at home before baby gets home. I have a milk modulator to take care of boiling and keeping water warm for making fm. Before discharge, get a bottle of ready to drink fm from nurse, it will probably charge to your final bill.

feed before you leave the hospital. usually they would sleep very soundly when travelling because of the movement and comfortable carrying position..
