How do initial contractions feel like?

Are they mild cramps like period cramps? I’m 38+3, have mild pelvic discomfort when i stand up from lying position but have no other signs of pending labor like bloody show/ spotting/ water bag breaking. Dr said a few days ago that my cervix is still high.. asked me to squat more..
