High risk pregnancy as a plus size woman and first time mom

Hi! Looking to see if there are any other mothers who gave birth and they were overweight. I am 131kg at 154cm and I was diagnosed with GDM and the doctor said i am at high risk for preeclampsia. These has me feeling a little worried but the scan shows that the baby’s heartbeat is great and healthy at 13 weeks. How was your birth process like? Did you have to be induced by 38 weeks or were you able to go through labour naturally? Or do you have to go through csect? I have these questions because I was wondering if I should just go subsidised all the way and give birth in B2 ward or if I should go private in my third trimester and give birth in B1. Oh, I am currently seeing the doctors at NUH. Thank you so much in advance! #firsttimemom #nuh #preeclampsia #GDM #plussizebirth

It's completely understandable to feel worried, but it's reassuring that baby's heartbeat is looking good at 13 weeks ❤️ Having a higher BMI and GDM does increase the risk of complications like preeclampsia, but it doesn't automatically mean you'll need an induction or c-sec. Many women with high-risk pregnancies still have straightforward vaginal births. The timing of delivery really depends on how your pregnancy progresses. If your blood sugars stay well controlled, your blood pressure remains normal, and both you and baby continue to do well, your team may let the pregnancy continue longer. If complications develop, they may recommend induction earlier for safety. As for B1 vs B2, if you're already happy with the care you're receiving at NUH, it's worth knowing that whether you're subsidised or private, the obstetric team follows the same clinical guidelines. Going private mainly gives you more continuity with the same doctor and additional comfort, rather than different medical care. Wishing you a smooth pregnancy ahead! It sounds like you're in good hands and being monitored closely, which is exactly what you'd want in a high-risk pregnancy ❤️

Thank you so much! It just feels demoralising whenever we go for appointments and the doctor tells me the issues I have and what I am doing wrong. It makes me feel like I am doing things wrong.
