Agree with the rest that newborn does not need pillow. Having a pillow may: - Increase the risk of suffocation: when the baby’s head “sink” into the soft pillow - Increases the risk of SIDS (as mentioned in the articles posted by Jamie) - Lead to overheating: having a pillow may increase the heat between the head and the pillow cover. - Lead to flat head syndrome: due to the constant pressure of sleeping on a pillow - Sprain the neck: when the infant sleeps on a fluffy pillow for long hours And here are some simple tips on how to help your baby sleep well (without the use of a pillow): http://www.thehealthsite.com/pregnancy/have-trouble-getting-your-baby-to-sleep-well-here-are-8-expert-tips-that-work/
Pillows are not recommended for children under 2. Kids that small can easily suffocate while using one. If you intend to get one for your baby, stay away from feather pillows, which are too soft, can set off allergies, and can smother a child if his head sinks into it while he's sleeping.

You don't have to use a newborn pillow, but you may place a folded muslin cloth under his head as it is breathable and will not cause him to suffocate. http://sg.theasianparent.com/bolsters-causing-infant-deaths/
I'm using little zebra dimple pillow but can't last more than 6 months as baby starts to roll out of it. It's soft but firm and the dimple prevents flat head.
I am using the dimple pillow from Babysafe that I got from the baby fair ($24.90). It claims to prevent flat head on babies.
thanks
