This really depends on the mommy (or daddy) to be. My close friend waited towards the end of her 2nd trimester before she started shopping for her baby boy because she wanted to confirm the gender. She also knew that she was going to have a baby shower and there will be plenty of gifts. I know other moms and dads who started shopping as soon as they find out they're pregnant but the stuff they bought are mostly things like a baby journal to document the pregnancy and waist extenders. So I suppose it's really up to personal preferences, starting early can help parents be organised but starting later can also save some money because there might be gifts from family and friends.
Actually, you should wait a while because there will be a lot of hand-me-downs from friends and relatives if you don't mind, from clothes to toys and unused baby items. You can start buying the major items in the second trimester. There are great discounts at baby fairs. :) Here are lists of newborn essentials for your baby shopping! http://pregnant.sg/articles/newborn-checklist/ http://sg.theasianparent.com/preparing_for_baby_checklist/
I bought my baby stuff towards the end of my 2nd trismeter because I somehow felt more energetic plus I had an obvious bump by then so people are generally aware and wouldn't push me around during babyfairs lol. I wouldn't recommend buying too many clothes though as Jamie said, you'll probably get hand me downs from family and friends ^^ I personally love the quarterly babyfairs held at Singapore Expo. The next one would be in April.
I think most people wait until the 2nd trimester to start buying and building a baby registry, but I also have a friend who bought a pair of tiny shoes as soon as her pregnancy was confirmed. She said placing the shoes at her desk made her pregnancy feel real, and I thought that was sweet! But in terms of big buys like nursery items and strollers, she waited until later. I'm currently window shopping in my 1st trimester!
I prefer to buy only after I have a feel of the baby. In the first trimester there doesn't seem to be much connection going on with the baby yet. Also I prefer to announce my pregnancy and see if anyone would offer their preloved items which they did! Baby items are very short-lived so I would prefer not spending so much money on them. Probably better to wait? I can totally understand your excitement!
Thanks for the inputs mummies! Many soon to be parents are pretty much excited to buy stuff for their babies. I was one of them. My wife and I bought baby stuff on her 1st trimester. Of course, we didn't have any idea of the gender so we ended up buying a neutral colors like white and brown. :)
I will suggest that you start preparing for the big day after you get to know the gender of your baby. It will be easier for you to decide on the colour of their clothes, bed and toys too.
I know exactly how you feel, the excitement is there, but in my opinion, I prefer on 3rd trimester, you'll be more excited about it😁🙈🤗
No, you wait until the second trimester to know the baby sex, and then you buy
i prefer to buy after 3rd trimester.. Im starting to buy my bby items.. more fun..
