stress because of GDM

i'm super stressed. i'm tired physically and mentally. 33weeks now, with borderline GDM. nowadays i eat lesser and lesser, i dont eat junk food, i eliminate sugary drinks of all forms. Its a must for me to exercise before meals and after meals. for my blood sugar level be okay. when i get too tired and fall asleep after doing housechores, wakeup check my 2hour blood sugar level its high 😭 i'm feeling so stress i dont feel like eating anything at all. everything i consume is not good enough. i just wanna cry cause thrid trimester is already so very hard with the backaches, the sleepyness,tiredness,anxiousness. i dont even know what to do anymore 😢

Hello mummy, i have diabetes before pregnancy. When I got pregnant, i was placed under high risk care. I felt a lot of pressure as well because the doctor kept telling me it’s a risk to me and my baby. Although my glucose levels before pregnancy has been good, ideal and stable, according to my diabetic doctor. Right when I found out I was pregnant, i was placed on weekly home glucose testing with the glucometer. I was also placed on insulin to control my glucose levels. Everytime i go back for follow up with the diabetic doctor and gynae at the same appointment , they would see my glucose chart. any single point that I have a slightly higher glucose level, i am questioned about what i eat and warned about the risk again. I feel guilty but at the same time horrible that I cannot even have 1 meal out of the whole week to cheat. When i controlled my diet, including changing the type of food i eat, finding all the low carbs food and whatnot, even if I have one day that is just 0.1 point higher, the doctor would pick it out.

Hello Mommy, I experienced GDM during my pregnancy. I was told to always eat protein foods (e.g. eggs, meat etc) first before eating the rest, especially carbo. if eating carbo like rice better have it last and not more than your fit size. sugary drink can be drank in half a cup but only after meals. Avoid processed food especially fish balls. I did eat fast food once in awhile to reward myself because it's really difficult and stressful to keep the glucose level within the range! Stress may also affect your glucose level so try to relax too! I trial and error a bit, the best way for me to manage back then was to eat caifan so I had balanced meal. of course I didn't finish the rice, shared with my husband. I managed to keep my glucose levels within the range most of the time and didn't have Type 2 diabetes after giving birth. you may try! jiayouuuuuu!!!

same here. i got GDM, high blood pressure and protein in my urine. was placed under high risk pregnancy. for gdm, the first few was hard for me to track. i followed the dietitian meal plans it was ok but was hard for me to follow up so i stopped tracking as pricking your fingers every single day 7X is stressful and I was place on metformin as well. i refused the insulin. but my Last appt, i was admitted and stayed in the hosp for 6days till i gave birth. Hahah. no choice nurse keep pricking me to track. but do be careful ok. cos they told me that they worried aft they cut off the cord from baby, baby will hv low blood sugar bcos too dependent on cord. and baby will need to be prick 5X withing 24hrs to chk their glucose for gdm mummies. stay strong. you can do this. few wks more!

the part where baby needs to be pricked worries me 😔 i realise on non testing days, sometimes i will just randomly track example my lunch. the reading is fine. but on testing days, its high. maybe ya cause stressful to prick 7times. and need to schedule a time to eat etc.

I had GD too, it was not borderline at all though. For the first month I bought the Freestyle Libre as there's a 50% off for first time users and it was very useful as it gives 24h monitoring so I can see when I spike and link it back to the meal I ate. I'll highly recommend it to reduce the uncertainty and stress. Eg fish soup + half white rice and keto pancakes caused a huge spike, but GYG quesadilla and roast duck rice were weirdly fine for me. There's once my levels spiked to 11 in the middle of a workday and I realised it was from stress coz I was in a meeting with my manager. Bad thing was I started skimping on exercise when I see my levels were in the safe zone.

aww thankyou for giving me options to chose from! alright got it, meat first then any form of carbs especially rice if can. will take note of that. i just had my cheat day, shared a beef burger with my son & fries plus also sneak in coke float(cause cant resist and its been weeks i've been drinking only plain water 😂) but funny thing was my sugar level was 6.0 after 2hr which was surprising cause the day i ate 7tablespoons of rice + half plate of brocolli my sugar level was 7.1 😅

same here. this gdb n doc is making me more stressful! im 31weeks now. i need to take metformin 850mg 3times per day. insulin predinner and night time insulin. what i realise is that when i take the insulin for predinner my sugar level shoot very high! i dont eat junk food. im not a sweet tooth too but dont know why every time i check my sugar level is always high. for me no point i eat all the medicines. now i just ignore my meds. cause i can't handle my stress everytime i look at the result! it make me feel like im failed ti takecare of myself. stressful pregnancy for me this time.

i see, so no matter what we eat its just the hormones. i'll try not to be afraid of the insulin if doc wants me to start. thankyou for sharing ur experience ❤️ will stay positive! 💪💪💪💪

Hi mummy, don’t be afraid, this is just the pregnancy hormones. I had borderline GDM and was on diet control but base on my sugar chart, dr started me on metformin. Dose of metformin just keep increasing after reviewing or charts every month. I try to eat home cook food with little rice. I understand it’s just hard. After sometime I just give up, because no matter how little I ate or did not eat my sugar level still high. So just eat as per normal.

thats what i told my husband. cause i omit sugar out entirely. if i wanna keep my numbers good, i have to omit rice. sometimes the diet plan that they give is hard to follow because i cook at home and i usually cook the same meal for everyone in the house. and not everyday i have the money to seperately cook my meal etc. 🤷 and its already so tiring. if meds can help regulate my sugar level i dont mind taking it tho. atleast if the number is still high i know that its not entirely my fault 😅

i had borderline GDM as well and was shocked that i had it as my diet didnt have a lot of sugary stuff. however aft consulting w the dietician, carbs are the main culprits. so you can switch white rice for brown rice, quinoa or even sweet potatoes. need go find carbs that are low GI. also drink more fluid and if possible, walk aft a meal may help!

actually i kind of realise that too. cause sometimes i cheat and eat example, nutella a lil bit . but my sugar level all okay. but when i take white rice even if its just a few tablespoon the sugar level ⬆️ , i'll find more low GI carbs or maybe try to skip carbs entirely 😅

I had gdm (turns out i am diabetic) at wk 20 test and felt i was suffering then. I was stress at first and over time, i felt better. I dun eat rice n just take the sides…

For me yes i omit rice n eat other kinds of carbs.. i tink i had quite often yong tau foo 😅 some cheat meals i ate some portion. But i could control that time (although i shoot some of the times as well). I had to monitor my blood glucose during my pregnancy.. weekly i have to report to my diabetes doc n my gynae would ask me on this as well whether i am controlling well.
