I'm not sure that I'm bonding with my baby. Isn't this something that's supposed to happen automatically?

It didn't happen for me right away either. When they handed me my baby right after she was born, my first thought was, "Wow she has long limbs!". Bonding for me happened later on, when we could 'communicate' with each other already and she wasn't just a crying/sleeping thing. It will happen, don't worry about it! One day your baby will be peacefully sleeping and you'll find yourself watching him/her and just feeling so much love.
