Try not to start new foods when you are overseas as it may be hard to see medical care if needed (due to unfamiliarity and/or language barrier).
Root vegetables are great (from the other comments) but please also introduce allergenic foods when you start weaning. One food a day, preferably in the morning.
A group of the eight major allergenic foods is often referred to as the Big-8 and comprises milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soybean.
