I would straight out say that it’s discrimination but it’s also something that can’t be helped because they can just conveniently put it as us not being able to contribute 100% due to our long absence? It will really upset me so how about you talk it out with your husband/support person to let out how you truly feel. Waiting for a miracle for 7 years is quite long, so I’d say the joy of having the baby would overcome the “upset” of not being promoted in many years to come! Hopefully :)

Thank you all for replying. It is indeed very demoralizing as I've worked hard for the past 8 years, slowly building up my work empire while waiting for my baby. Once I got pregnant and bosses just give such comments. But promoting to a mummy is what I've been waiting for for longest time. And I must truly enjoy the process and not letting them to destroy my inner peace. ✌🏼Thanks all ❤️

Sorry to hear that. I would probably be disheartened and upset too if I were in your situation. Not going into what's right or wrong, but companies will have their own interests and considerations which will be different from your own. Nevertheless I feel you. Having a well deserved promotion delayed because of pregnancy is really... Urgh...

For me, family always come first. There is only 1 family but many companies out there. This incident also shows how ur company value work-life balance and their emphasis on family. I would definitely ignore the boss and find a new job during maternity. Don’t care about ur boss. Be a happy mummy. And congrats on ur baby!

Thank you ❤️

Companies always claim they are pro family but actually they are not. Nothing we can do about it.. ever since my lo was born I have gotten over it.. my lo is my top priority now, my mindset now is to work and get paid so I can give my lo a better life. Nothing much about progression what not.

Management issue -ignore them! No point explaining. Sorry to say, but these people either not married or could be spinster. They will never understand. You already said you waited 7years. Of course your baby is more precious & important.

Yup! One of them is only focusing on her career. Always nitpicking on those whom already married and with child. She even commented on one of my colleague who just given birth recently "you can't get pregnant again within 2-3 years, otherwise you will be marked" 🙄

It’s quite common for work promotions to be prolonged due to maternity leave and pregnancy due to frequent and long absences from work. You’ve waited so long for this promotion to mummy. Work promotion can wait a bit longer.

For me. Having my own family is more important than work. If my company were to say that to me, I will start looking for other jobs during my ML. Because I know they won’t appreciate me anyway

Well this is just a convenient way for your boss to explain to u why he can't promote u. If your boss wants to promote you, pregnancy will never be a showstopper.

Babies are very cute so we could always choose to focus on them and ignored those we dislike. Life is too short to focus on the lousy people :)
