what position do newborn sleep on

I have been letting my 3 week newborn sleep on his side. then i realise it is not recommended, what do i do? Will anything happen? And what position shud a newborn sleep safely? Back or stomach?

Baby should sleep on their backs until they know how to flip from tummy to back then they are allowed to sleep on their side.
