How painful is it to really give birth?

I endured until my water bag broke and contractions were about 2 minutes apart before I gave in to epidural. After epidural was administered I slept for a good 4 hours before preparing for delivery. If you decide early then you will not have to endure the pain like I did, so whether painful and how painful you want it to be can be a choice. If you choose to go for a c-section then during childbirth there is practically no pain at all. The incision wound will hurt for up to a week or two. And everyone's threshold for pain is different. No one can describe to you how painful it really is. All I can say is the pain resembles menstrual cramps and food poisoning but 10 times worse. Haha!

Depends on your pain threshold as well as whether you are on pain relief. I gave birth naturally with laughing gas and it was an interesting experience. It helped to take my mind off the pain during contractions but gas takes a few seconds to take effect and only lasts for a short while. Therefore, when the baby was about to arrive, the pain escalated and it did feel like my vagina was going to tear. At the split second she was born, I felt as if I was going to black out. Anyway, you may want to opt for epidural if you are afraid of pain. It's actually not the most painful thing in the world, childbirth.

My pain threshold is very little but I managed to deliver my 2 kids without any epidural. Some tips to share if you are like me want to try out without epidural: - Have a strong determination on your childbirth plan, e.g. tell yourself 'I can do it!' - Read up and practice "breathing techniques" for relieving childbirth pain. You may refer to this video on how to do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=SG&hl=en-GB&v=I5HJ83xXQvM - Discuss with your Gynae and husband on your childbirth plan. These are 2 important persons during the birth to encourage you to go through the process.

I totally agree with Stephanie said. It is different for all mummies.I tolerated the contractions for 2 hours and finally gave in to epidural. Having done tattoos and had broken bones before, I thought I can tolerate pain but I was wrong.

It was painful and traumatising for my first one. When it comes for my second baby, i felt in total control and ease

It was insane for me, i have a very low tolerance for pain.
